Hidden Secrets-my first attempt at altering a book

I have always been unhappy with the thought of destroying a book. This one cost me 10p in a junkshop, so I put my doubts aside. The little straw lady became my focus [20p in the junk shop], she was asking to be displayed in a shadowbox.

Many pages were torn out before I stuck the rest together. Cutting the block out was an interesting experience. Now the fun bit, the edges are painted old gold. Gesso to give the suface texture, followed by many layers of starburst stains to colour, before stamping.

Well my book doesnt shut properly and the cover is still work in progress, but I will certainly try this again.

Thankyou for stopping by to take a look. Your coments are greatly appreciated.

  5. My husband (who is a publisher) always gets cross when I alter a book, so I understand where you are coming from. The result of your work is brilliant though, I love the shadowbox idea, the whole thing looks amazing!!

  7. Really lovely Yvonne. I'm glad you took the plunge and 'desecrated' a book - think of it as giving an unloved book a new life :-)
