I have always been unhappy with the thought of destroying a book. This one cost me 10p in a junkshop, so I put my doubts aside. The little straw lady became my focus [20p in the junk shop], she was asking to be displayed in a shadowbox.
Many pages were torn out before I stuck the rest together. Cutting the block out was an interesting experience. Now the fun bit, the edges are painted old gold. Gesso to give the suface texture, followed by many layers of starburst stains to colour, before stamping.
Well my book doesnt shut properly and the cover is still work in progress, but I will certainly try this again.
Thankyou for stopping by to take a look. Your coments are greatly appreciated.
OMW this is stunning I love the colours you have used - you have done a fantastic job of it and you should be so proud FAb - Liz
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous!! Although I've torn many a page out of an old book I haven't yet fully altered one - but feel inspired now looking at yours! Love the colours and the stamping and the little straw lady looks right at home.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand your reservations about altering the book am exactly the same you were very brave to do it! Beautiful work the colours show off the doll, a very pretty piece xx Zoe
ReplyDeleteLooks fab Yvonne, its a lot of work, but oh so worth it. Love altering books, mine are junkshop ones as well. Annette x
ReplyDeleteMy husband (who is a publisher) always gets cross when I alter a book, so I understand where you are coming from. The result of your work is brilliant though, I love the shadowbox idea, the whole thing looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteGreat result Yvonne and the shadowbox is a lovely idea. Something I've never done and yet always wanted to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely Yvonne. I'm glad you took the plunge and 'desecrated' a book - think of it as giving an unloved book a new life :-)
ReplyDeleteA Lot of work but fab results
ReplyDeleteStunning work Yvonne... love the straw lady!
